What is a Unified Planning Work Program?

Federal transportation planning regulations requires the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments to develop a Unified Planning Work Program to specify transportation planning activities that will be undertaken by the metropolitan planning organization during a two-year period.

The Unified Planning Work Program identifies activities that will occur as part of the metropolitan transportation planning process, along with other federally funded transportation planning efforts or locally funded planning efforts that could result in significant changes to the transportation system. The document includes a description of the planning work and resulting products, who will perform the work, timeframes for completing the work, the cost of the work, and the source(s) of funds.

The Unified Planning Work Program serves as an internal scope of work for PPACG staff, but also provides transparency to citizens and stakeholders about how federal transportation planning funds are being used by the MPO, local governments, transit agencies and the Colorado Department of Transportation.
